Top 6 Places To Buy Lumber & Reclaimed Wood In Houston

Any time I’m talking to a new woodworker or even just a DIY weekend warrior, I also make a point to tell them to make sure they look beyond the big box stores for other lumber and reclaimed wood choices. Big box stores are expensive!

Some areas of the country are limited on their options as to where woodworkers can get their wood. Houston though is NOT one of those places. You are lucky because you have plenty of excellent options.

Not only is buying from a lumber yard cheaper but you get MUCH higher quality product to choose from. Take a look at my list below for the best places to buy lumber and reclaimed wood in the Houston, Texas area!

Best Places To Buy Lumber In Houston

Clark’s Hardwood

Clark’s Hardwood Lumber Company is an amazing place. They offer a wide variety of lumber for very competitive prices. If you are new to woodworking or never purchased wood from a store that isn’t a big box chain, I’d suggest you stopping here. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and willing to take their time to teach and explain everything to you to ensure you make the right purchase for your project.

Clark’s was started back in 1948 and was acquired by the Clark family in 1968 and have been family owned ever since. At any time, you can walk in their store and find over 100 species of wood from around the world. It’s likely you’ll see wood here that you’ll never even knew existed! They also have an extensive amount of reclaimed wood as well.

In addition to a wide selection of product, they also offer a wide range of services. You can purchase wood from them as rough you want to as cleaned up as you need. Their rough cut wood is sold by the board foot while the fully finished boards are sold by the linear foot. If you haven’t heard of board foot before, you can take a look at this article I wrote that will explain it all to you.

Clark’s also sells plywood and other miscellaneous wood products such as butcher block, hand railing and flooring.

Old World Lumber Company

Old World Lumber has some IMPRESSIVE product, especially if you like reclaimed wood and just history in general. They opened their business back in 2015 to save the wood from old barns and structures and bring these items to the public to make into furniture and decor for their home.

They have an amazing product line of reclaimed wood. You’ll find everything from old beams to flooring and barnwood. They also have massive pieces of oak slabs that you can purchase. These are great for conference room tables, dining tables or even kitchen countertops.

One really neat feature on their website is that they allow you to see the before/after impact of finishing a beam that will be used as a mantel. The difference is impressive, especially if you haven’t worked with reclaimed wood much in the past.
